I actually took this photo in my rear garden against an old coal shed. The brick been a nice backdrop for the final image.Time
This was taken in the afternoon when the light level had dropped a little to avoid any harsh light. Given the are was now shaded from the sun it made a nice even exposure.Lighting
Lighting was all natural daylight, as mentioned it was just a case of waiting for the afternoon sun to drop a little to avoid harsh shadows and highlights.Equipment
I used a canon D750 for this image and a sigma 17-70mm f2.8. The tripod was a K&F concept and I just used the cameras built in timer as this was a self take.Inspiration
This photo was actually a very quick last minute idea. I had seen a portrait competition in a local newspaper and decided to enter. I wanted something different from the norm and this is what I came up with. It served me well as I actually won the competition and my prize was having the image printed on a large canvas.Editing
Post processing involved minor adjustments to contrast and exposure in light room, this was followed by duplicating the image in photoshop, converted the top layer to black and white and created a layer mask to delete the section I wanted in colour. Quite a simple edit but effective. In my camera bag
I now have a Sony A7ii camera, with this I carry a sigma 24mm f1.4 art lens, Sony 50mm f1.8, Samyang 35mm f1.4 and a viltrox 85mm f1.8. Also have an intervalometer, various filters, peak design strap and step up rings.Feedback
I would say take plenty of test shots first, it’s handy if you can put something like a broom where you will be sat to manually focus on so that the focus won’t shift and will remain sharp.
