Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in one of the many beautiful natural forests in Magoebaskloof, South Africa.

Time

This is one of my most favourite images and was taken on a morning walk while out to photograph the waterfalls around.

Lighting

The natural lighting was perfect for the shot. The leaves were wet and shiny from raining all night.

Equipment

The photograph was taken with a Canon EOS 1100D, 18-55mm lens. Apperture f11.0, ISO 400. I used a tripod as I was a newbie at nature photography.

Inspiration

I have many Masters that I admire and learn from on a daily basis. My sister Germa being one of them. I always aspire to become better at photography and do this by challenging myself, especially in genres never done before.

Editing

Due to the natural light not much post-processing was needed. I had to pull down some highlights and lift our shadows, but the rest is natural.

In my camera bag

Because of the year-round beautiful weather in South Africa, we travel and mostly walk a lot to find interesting spots. My bag has my camera (at this stage still Canon EOS 1100D - will be upgrading soon), 18-55mm and 70-300mm lenses. Lightweight raincoat, cloth and plastic bags for in case it rains.

Feedback

Look for the magic and capture it. Most of the time you get one shot, take it. I took many shots before I got the perfect one. Being a newbie then, I had to experiment with different settings to see the effect.
