Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken while I was out for a walk - I always take my camera just in case! It's a place near my hometown so I knew what to expect...although I wasn't exactly expecting that!

Time

When I'm photographing landscapes I usually pick the classic blue or golden hour. It helps with the type of photos that I like taking, including for reflections.

Lighting

I chose a specific time of day to ensure good light, which is the first things I think about when I plan to go outside for a shoot.

Equipment

I was using my faithful Canon EOS 100D and a zoom lens (55-250mm). It was one of the first times I used it, and I've been using it many times after that. Probably one of my favourite lenses!

Inspiration

I wanted to photograph some wildlife and water - usually I prefer still life but I wanted to challenge myself.

Editing

For the post-processing I just cropped the photo and adjusted the light a little - I often think that this was a case of being in the right place at the right time and with the right shutter speed set!

In my camera bag

I don't use a lot of equipment - normally it's just a tripod and different lenses, and a remote shutter button.

Feedback

Anticipate what's going to happen: I saw the swans being a bit more lively and prepared a faster shutter speed to capture their movement. When I heard the sound of flapping wings, my photographer instinct kicked in and I just went for it!
