Behind The Lens

Location

This photo of my two horses was taken on a small family farm in Berryville, Va.

Time

This was actually shot during the middle of a very overcast and snowy day. After the snow showers had slowed down from that morning I trudged out to move my horses from the small paddock to the large one and they were very happy to take the opportunity to frolic in the snow

Lighting

This was shot using all natural light. No flash or reflectors involved.

Equipment

Nikon D3200 sigma 70-30 1:4-5.6

Inspiration

I had only had my camera a couple months and was totally new to photography. I just wanted to play and practice. The snow and beautiful playful horses simply offer a great opportunity hard for any horse girl to pass up. This is actually only one quick shot from a series of photos I took that day of them racing about and playing like they were foals again.

Editing

I do not believe at this point I knew much about post processing. I believe I did sharpen/clarify it a little.

In my camera bag

I have the Nikon d3200 thats what everything is shot with. For my lenses I carry sigma 70-30 1:4-5.6, nikkor 55-200mm 1:4-5.6, and nikkor 18-55mm 1:35-5.6. All my equipment is fairly basic for now but I am starting to shop around for some new lenses to continue growing as a photographer.

Feedback

Honestly I just think if you see an opportunity dont hesitate to take it. Sometimes getting a great shot may mean freezing your toes, getting a little wet, rolling around in dirt, mud, and even manure at times. Don't be afraid to pull over on your way home from work to enjoy and capture the sunset. Just be present with life and capture it.
