Behind The Lens

Location

I kid you not, this picture was taken in Bat Cave, North Carolina, USA

Time

This was later in the afternoon on a fall day.

Lighting

The challenge for me was finding a way to balance the darkness of the stream with the hazy yet bright sky.

Equipment

Camera was a EOS REBEL T2i, a tripod, Canon Lens 16-35mm. Aperture f/8.0, ISO 400, shutter 1/25.

Inspiration

These pink colored bushes were all over the place which was very new to me for fall colors so I was really wanting to get something different (to me). We were just zipping along these winding roads, parallel to a stream, and I happened to notice this beat-up old bridge that was about 40 yards off the road. Walked over to the bridge and this image really made me pause and appreciate nature in full bloom.

Editing

I didn't do a whole lot of post-processing. I am not very good at that.

In my camera bag

The details of my bag are inconsequential. However, I run around with a Canon EOS 6D. 16-35mm, 55mm prime, 24-105mm, and my Holga pin-hole. I also lug around a small flashlight and a note pad with ideas that I capture from other people. These are usually settings other people took for a sunrise/sunset picture or stuff like that. Gives me ideas to experiment.

Feedback

This is a hard question for me to answer. Everyone sees things with their own creative eye. My sole piece of advice is patience, don't be afraid to ignore what your camera is telling you, and have fun!
