Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at one of the old buildings at University of the Philippines. I love exploring the outdoors to look for places to shoot, because you never know what to expect.

Time

It was around 3 p.m. when my model asked me if we can do a photoshoot; and we pushed through even when it's raining already. It was a bold move, but we survived anyway.

Lighting

I just used natural light for this photo, since I want to utilize everything that I have - and we're shooting outdoors.

Equipment

This was shot using a Canon 1100D, and a 50mm f/1.8

Inspiration

Growing up, my dad always watched local and international action films. I have always been inspired by the grunge scene in the late 80s and early 90s - anything that's dark and edgy, really. Actually, most of my work has the vibe and it has always been my signature.

Editing

Not really! I did the settings straight from my camera. That's the beauty of shooting monochrome portraits - you don't have to worry about the color, just the brightness and contrast - and you're good to go!

In my camera bag

Since I'm always on the go, I cannot bring my camera with me from time to time, due to the weight; but on a good day, I have my Canon 1100D with me and my 50mm f/1.8. Being a fan of portraiture, having a lens with good aperture is a must!

Feedback

You can never go wrong in reading and looking up what you want to do. Taking photos is not just about the mere clicking of a button - you actually have to create a good concept for you to have an amazing output.
