This photo was taken at Dungeness in KentTime
It was forecast a clear night so I headed on the hour drive to get away away from the light pollution to heighten my chances of capturing the Milky Way. This shot particular was taken around 11:30pm on a cold November evening.Lighting
Dungeness beach is full of old fishing boats, so I knew I wanted to get one under the night sky. I found the boat I liked and then light painted it with a torch at the beginning of the exposure.Equipment

I had wanted some new milky way shots for a while. After checking the weather forecast and seeing it was a moonless clear night for atlas 6 hours I knew it was going to be a pretty rewarding evening. I wanted to try and capture something different from a very well photographed area. So I knew coming up with a different image would be difficult. After searching the area I came across this old fishing boat with old fishing nets, to my luck it lined up perfectly with the Milky Way in the night sky.Editing
Yes I processed the image in lightroom 5. I reduced the orange saturation to try and reduce the surrounding light pollution as much as possible. I then added contrast, clarity and lifted the exposure and highlights up a bit to bring out more detail in the milky way. I also had to correct the white balance on the fishing boat as the flash light I used on it caused problems with the whit balance. In my camera bag
I photograph a lot of wildlife typically so usually always have a telephoto lens in my bag normally my trusty canon 300mm f2.8mm lens. I always keep two bodies in my bag just so I can capture moments quickly without having to always change lenses. My Kit includes: 2 X 5D Mark 3s Canon 24mm f2.8 Canon 35mm f1.4 Canon 85mm f1.2 mk2 Canon 70-200mm f2.8l IS USM mk2Feedback
I think the best advice i can give is plan ahead. I have tried numerous times capturing the night sky with no luck due to weather conditions changing. You need to check the weather and ensure it is clear for most of the night. It is best to head out away from the towns to a quite area with limited light pollution, this will increase your chances of seeing more stars and the Milky Way. A moonless night is even better as you will get hardly any light pollution from the moon causing the sky to be a lot darker. Like anything practice is often rewarded
