I actually took this picture on the 18th deck of the largest cruise ship in the world. The girl in the photo and I work on the cruise ship together, she is a professional synchronized swimmer and I am a professional figure skater. She needed some new head shots done so I took her up to the top deck to capture this shot!Time
I believe it was about 3pm or so.Lighting
The lighting is all natural light. I positioned her in a shaded area from the bright Caribbean sun. The sun position was perfect that it actually reflected softly from the ground back to her skin giving her a soft glow.Equipment
I just used my Nikon D7000 and my 70-200 lensInspiration
My friend Paulina is from Romania and has such sticking features. Her eyes are by far some of the most captivating blue eyes I have ever seen. Mostly I was just inspired by her true natural ability to be so photogenic.Editing
The only post processing I did was to adjust the lighting a little in Lightroom. Otherwise her skin really is just that smooth. In my camera bag
I have very little equipment to be honest. I truly have a minimalistic view and want to just have the basics so that I can let my subject do all the work and produce the magic.Feedback
Headshots can be used for a variety of purposes and always seem to be a necessity. I love shooting headshots for people as it’s a constant challenge to not only to get a flattering shot, but to capture their beauty and talent in one shot that will make a lasting impression. The main importance in my opinion is to have a real likeness to the person that will then hopefully be called in for the audition or job. Nothing is more frustrating for a director looking for a particular look and having someone show up that looks nothing like their shot. Second most important thing about a headshot is that their inner beauty and personality should jump right off the print.
