Behind The Lens

Location

This dragonfly was sitting on the sidewalk just outside of my apartment as I got home from work.

Time

It was abut 3:20 pm in the afternoon.

Lighting

The sun was still high but starting to go down west. Lighting was still very good.

Equipment

Nikon D3100 DSLR with a 55 mm lens, no tripod, hand held.

Inspiration

The fact that this dragonfly was so big and just sitting there, I had to photographic it. I slowly moved down toward the dragonfly, and he/she would lift it's tail in a threatening manor. Of course we all know that dragonflies cannot hurt anybody. Also the dragonfly did not try to get away as I was moving closer helped to get this shot.

Editing

The only things that I did was to enhance the focus a little and brighten the picture, because as I moved in I created a shadow and the picture was not lit up the way I wanted it to be. Also, I turned the dragonfly to sit straight instead of leaning to the left a little.

In my camera bag

I have upgraded my camera to a Nikon D5100 DSLR, I have a Digital Flash, a 18 - 55 mm lens, close-up filters, and a few odds and ends.

Feedback

I really can't say. I was at the right spot at the right time, the fact that it was cool the day I took the photo had the dragonfly a little docile helped a lot.
