This was taken late afternoon...around 5.Lighting
It was an overcast day the this Welsh Cob Pony was in a very shady paddock.Equipment
I used a Canon 40D with a 28-135 mm AF lens with the Sports setting.Inspiration
This is a beautiful pony and I loved the way his forelock and mane would float out with the breeze. Every so often as it would do that you could see his eyes. I wanted to capture that moment.Editing
I left this one pretty much as is. I did lighten another similar but prefer the feel of this one.In my camera bag
When shooting photos of horses I always have my 300 mm and my 135 mm lenses. I always carry extra batteries and sd cards as I hike around the farm in all the pastures to capture the retired horses in their daily routine so don't carry a tripod when I do that. I use trees, stumps or fences if I feel like I can't control the shake when zooming.Feedback
It's really hard to take pictures of horses in motion. It's even harder sometimes to get a good shot when they are standing perfectly still. Horses are always moving. Their eyes and ears and nostrils are constantly in motion. I take many shots using the rapid fire and although I have a bunch to go through I'm most likely to get 'that' shot where they are focused on you and it shows in the photo. Patience in abundance is mandatory.
