Behind The Lens

Location

I live in Stratford-upon-Avon so regularly walk past Holy Trinity Church, Shakespeare's burial place. This is the view across the Avon from the Recreation Ground.

Time

This was taken at 15:55 on 1 December 2013 on a typical wintery December day.

Lighting

The sun was low in the sky with quite a lot of cloud cover, creating atmospheric back lighting and the river gave an interesting reflection.

Equipment

A Nikon D7100 with a Nkon DX AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G. Camera settings: f/5.6, 1/160 sec, ISO 100 (Manual mode).

Inspiration

Holy Trinity is one of Stratford's landmarks. It is a constantly changing scene as the seasons, time of day and weather change. I usually have my camera with me about 50% of the time and liked the late wintery lighting.

Editing

I use Adobe Lightroom 5 when necessary. For this image, I adjusted the exposure and contrast marginally.

In my camera bag

Nikon D7100 Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm 1:1.4G Prime Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6G Nikon DX AF-S Nikkor 55-300mm 1:4.5-5.6GED

Feedback

Wherever you live, you are surrounded by opportunities for great images. Some of my potentially best shots have been when I have been out and about without my camera! I now try to take my camera with me whenever I can. The best atmospheric shots occur early and late in the day and when the weather is stormy. Just be careful to have a plastic bag with you to cover your camera should it rain heavily.
