Location
This is an image that I took in Yosemite National Park. I am blessed and extremely fortunate as a photographer to have this gorgeous park within a 4 hour drive of my home.Time
It was taken around 9 AM. Nothing is more beautiful than Yosemite first thing in the morning with fresh snow on the floor.Lighting
Mother Nature is to credit for the great lighting here. Camp out at this spot before sunrise. And just as the sun peaks over the mountain? You will be rewarded with these beautifully lit mountain tops that you see.Equipment
Besides the use of my Canon camera.....I was using my wide angled lens and a tripod. Then I took 4 different exposures to create this HDR image.Inspiration
Landscape photography will always be my first love. And Yosemite is my favorite place to shoot. I make trips to Yosemite on my own about 4-5 times a year as a way to escape my city life and find peace. When I get there I will try and find a spot away from other visitors where I know to expect beautiful light. Then I spend hours in that spot....shooting it at different angles and light. This image was the same. Believe it or not....this spot was just 5 minutes off of the popular tourist paths...... And I had this view all to myself.Editing
Yes..... I took 4 exposure of this scene. And at home it was run thru HDR Efex PRO.In my camera bag
When shooting landscapes as this one.....here is my usual arsenal: my 5d II for all stills....a back up 7d for any wildlife I encounter (quicker focusing) and wide angle shots.....my 10-22 Canon lens for wide, an 85mm 1.2 and my 50 mm as well. I will also bring along my 100-400mm for any bears or coyotes and such that I may see as I venture thru my paths. And of course.....the polarizer.....the ND filter....and the tri pod.Feedback
1.) Plan. know where your light is and is going to be and where you should be setting up. 2.) Catch the golden hours of light (sunrise and sunset) 3.) be patient. A great landscape shot will take some time to set up.....to frame.....and to wait for just the right light. I don't worry about getting 5 great shots on an outing. I know my shot I am looking for and if I get that one? I'm a happy camper :-) 4.) Try and try again. Shoot it.....go home and see what you liked and notice what should have been done differently. And continue to learn and grow from each experience
