Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken while on my way to San Jose on the 101 freeway near Gilroy.

Time

It was probably late in the day around 3:00 pm.

Lighting

I prefer natural lighting anyway so this was a perfect time of day for this shot.

Equipment

I am currently using a canon t3i it's a great all around camera. I use the signs 18-200 lens for most shots because it's a really good all around lens. This picture was taken with my sigma 70-300 2.8 at 70mm, no tripod as the lens has two stages of os.

Inspiration

I'm always inspired by the world around me. On a day to day basis, unless I'm shooting a red carpet or concert, I rarely go looking for things to photograph. Opportunities present themselves and I am compelled to act on them. I always have my camera so the taking is the easy part. The rest is luck and a good camera and lens.

Editing

This picture was processed using DXO Optics Pro 10. It's a great software for drawing out details of the photo. It's not like photoshop, there's nothing artificial going on just really good tools to bring out what's already there. After that I send everything to Lightroom for touch up and storing my libraries.

In my camera bag

I use a Canon T3i. My lenses include my all purpose sigma 18-200 and my sigma 70-200 2.8. I also have an older sigma 70-300 but I don't use it that much. My next lens will probably be something with a 150-600 range.

Feedback

Just shoot. I know it sounds simple but with digital photography it's now possible to make mistakes and just delete them. Personally I'll take the same picture using different camera settings and different angles. I don't trust the camera screen for viewing photos so I keep them all until I get home and process them. After their processed its decision time. I've got 10 really great photos that I want to keep but they are all very similar. At that point I want to post them all because they're all good. That's when I have to reign myself in and find THE ONE. You'll know it when you see it. Most of all I have fun.
