Location
The photo was taken at my home using a coffee table and a bed sheet as the backdrop.Time
The shot was taken in the evening after work.Lighting
I wanted to make sure to have some contrast so I am using only one LED light that is coming from the left and a white foam board on the right to bounce some light back on my subject. I also wanted to set the mood for someone having a moment to them self totally present and focused on what they are reading.Equipment
I am using a Canon Rebel T3i sitting on a tripod. My lens is the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8, single LED light and a white foam board.Inspiration
I am a huge Spiderman fan, and I love yoga and have been studying the Bhagavad Gita for many years. This pictured was inspired by a self-portrait project where I was not allowed to be in the picture but the picture was meant to communicate who I am. I love this image because it brings together many of my passions in a fun and quirky kind of way. I even purposely selected the verse Spiderman is focused on because it is of particular importance to me. I love the idea of taking a fictional character and posing him out of character in setting that many of us can relate too.Editing
Yes, I did do some post processing. I felt the highlights in the background were to strong so I brought them down a bit. Otherwise I didn't do very much.In my camera bag
Normally I have my T3i, Tamron 24-70mm, Sigma 10-20mm, Yongnuo flash, and an extra battery.Feedback
My advice for a self-portrait would be to first put a lot of thought into the message you want to communicate, try to keep it simple without trying to do too much. Really think about the lightening and how it impacts the mood you want to set. Have a lot of patience especially with working with toy figures. You want to take your time to make sure the pose is as realistic as possible. And finally have fun!
