This images was taken at a bird estuary near marsh lands.Time
This happened in the evening and was a last minute idea! That morning I was thinking how I wanted to composite a dress to look as though it goes on forever and almost swallows the subject. I put out a casting call and we shot the image later on in the same day.Lighting
Lighting was nice and overcast. It was perfect for the moody image.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark II Canon 85mm 2.8 TripodInspiration
Around that time I had recently did a composite of another dress image titled "Bloom" although it had a completely different feeling. Bloom was more freeing where as this image feels as though the woman is grieving. I wanted to portray a woman that we all can relate to. We all have moments of grief and regret where we feel hopeless.Editing
Lots of compositing! The dress was also originally pink and I ended up changing it to blue! I actually created a photoshop speed edit video on YouTube if you want to check it out -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBWuzqD5PgQIn my camera bag
I like to keep it light and simple. I always have my Canon 5D Mark II, Sigma 70-200 2.8 IS as well as my 85mm 2.8. I like to have a comb and some bobby pins handy if I need to fix the models hair and I try to have safety pins handy for the garments. I also have a circular reflector/diffuser that I use on occasion.Feedback
If you are planning on doing a composite then definitely bring a tripod. It will make the process much easier. Take multiple shots of the dress in different spots on the ground/in the frame. Then when you import the images to composite then it don't be as difficult to make the image look more "real" and less like a composite.
