I took this photo in Winnersh in Reading UK over the motorway bridge whilst on a city and guilds image capture level two course studying photography 6 years agoTime
This is one of my favourite images and it was in November and it had just got dark it was very exciting to capture light trails in this wayLighting
Light trails work best in lowlight situations and a tripod or something very sturdy to hold the camera still is an absolute mustEquipment
I had My first canon camera 100D with a tripod and a remote shutter release I also had a timer on 18 to 300 mm lens and a UV filterInspiration
We voted on a subject to take pictures of and we all wanted to do light trails as they are so vibrant and exciting. This was especially close to my heart as it’s right near where I live and I had always dreamed of capturing the fast pace of the streaming lights on the motorwayEditing
I cropped the photo as I had some tree at the side which I thought was quite distracting as it was a dark area, I also highlighted the streaming lights and bought the colour of the picture slightly lighter to emphasise the light touching the road surface and a bit of the background also. I sharpened the picture slightly as you can be quite generous with this with a dark image I did this to emphasise the striking lines of the right trails. In my camera bag
Just a camera and plenty of batteries I’ll take pictures where ever I go oh and I also have my iPad and a connector so that as soon as I get anywhere I can edit them and publish them.Feedback
Play around with the settings although I usually use manual mode. ISO no higher than 200 and a shutter speed of about five seconds. And keep flat camera still. A motorway bridge is quite a good place and away from artificial light sources which can interfere with the light trails
