Behind The Lens

Location

I took this years ago when I had just graduated from the University of Technology, Jamaica. It was taken in the Utech Photography Club building, that unfortunately no longer exists. It was once a dark room that we also used as a photo studio sometimes.

Time

I can't recall the exact time but it was in the day.

Lighting

The lighting technique used here is light painting that works by taking a long exposure of the scene and using a light source (phone screen in this case) to illuminate the features of the models body.

Equipment

At the time I was using a d5100, Nikkor 1.8 G 50mm, on a tripod and a phone screen. No flash was used for this image.

Inspiration

Back then I was fascinated with long exposures and light painting, so I did a lot of that during my time in Final year of university and wen I just graduated.

Editing

Not much just minor tweaking of highlights and shadows, contrast and such.

In my camera bag

Currently I have a Nikon Z6ii, Nikon D750, Nikon N8008, Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2 lens, Tamron 1.8 35mm lens, Nikkor 50mm 1.8 G lens, Nikkor 50mm 1.8D lens

Feedback

Don't be consumed by not getting it right at first. Play around with bulb mode, cover your viewfinder if you have an optical one. Start off with a very dark or low lit room to get your practice. The smaller the light source, the more precise the light painting. Lastly, start off with a stationary object, use your light source and point it towards where you want the light to record on your subject. I hope this helps ????????
