Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a railway station near to where I live. Usually we go to the tea stalls there to have tea, hang out.

Time

I took this photo in the afternoon when the sun was turning red slowly.

Lighting

I like to take portraits from above. It gives an interesting POV and I don't have to worry about shades and bad lighting that much. This was taken when the sun was going down, so the environment was also interesting.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D5000 with a nikkor 35mm f1.8.

Inspiration

As I said before, I sometimes go to the tea stalls at the station and walk around with a cup of tea in my hand. Everyday I watch these kids running about, playing on the tracks. They live in the slums nearby. As I watched them for a couple of days, I was interested in them and took my camera one day with me. When I asked this kid to take his photo, he was really happy that I'm taking a photo of him. At the same time he was also thinking whether he would get something to eat from me. Well, he did.

Editing

I'm quite a lazy person when it comes to postprocessing photos. I use lightroom 5.0 for postprocessing photos for minimum color corrections. I like BnW photos and try to keep them as simple as possible.

In my camera bag

I usually do not take my bag with me when I go out for photos. I just have my Nikon D5000 camera with Nikkor 35mm f1.8 lens which is great for both street photography and portraits. Although, in my bag I keep an extra SD card, the charger when I'm going someplace to travel, an ND filter, a polythene bag in case it rains. I do not own much now, but someday, definitely I will get a Leica ;) .

Feedback

There's not much. Just focus on the eye, it gives life to the portrait. If you're not getting both eyes to focus, focus on the prominent eye.
