Location
I took this photo at Summerleaze beach in Bude. It is on the North Cornwall Coast in England going into the Atlantic sea. This shot was taken looking out from the sea pool there.Time
This shot was taken at about five pm in the evening. Just as the sun was starting to set. It wasn't much after that the sun was already below the horizon, and such a spectacular sight had disappeared.Lighting
I had anticipated that the sun would at some point place itself inline with the rocks out at sea, so I tried to find the best perspective to make sure it was lined up well, the clouds also contributed to some sun rays which busy around the rockes which I think adds a nice effect.Equipment
I used a Canon 400D with the EF-S 18-55mm kit lens, no tripod was used for this shot but I had a 2 stop ND filter and an additional 2 stop graduated ND filter on the lens at the time.Inspiration
I live locally to this place, and after eating lunch up on the beach we decided to go for a walk, as the sun started setting it became visible that there would be some quite spectacular views. The north Cornwall Coast is very rough and rugged and is always a pleasure to photograph, mostly this time round I was in the right place at the right time!Editing
Yes, I put this shot into Lightroom. Mostly I darkened the shadows of the shot to being out the contrast in the colour of the sun. I also boosted the contrast and luminance, whilst also decreasing the exposure by a full stop. I thought this would make the colours in the shot seem more bold as colourful drawing a viewers attention to a single point. In my camera bag
Normally I travel quite light, as a young photographer, aged 14 I don't have large amounts of money to spend on equipment. Normally, I carry my Canon 400D, with the EF-S 18-55mm kit lens, along with the 75-300mm f.4.0-5.6 with a lens hood. I also carry along a set of neutral density filters and lens connectors. I also have an XCSOURCE magnesium travel tripod, it's quite light, and compact. Recently I have added a circular polariser to my equipment list although I have yet to go out and take many photos with it properly.Feedback
For this shot it was mostly luck for me, although I have been thinking of other locations that I could do. If you want something with a style like this, I would check where the sun is setting locally to that point, and seeing if it aligns with any points of major interest. I was lucky with this shot to have the close as well, which brought out more colour, so keep an eye on the weather forecast. You don't need a spectacular camera to take a shot like this, but a wide angle lens is recommended for landscapes, also I would advise the use of ND filters and graduated ND filters so you can get more out of the picture.
