Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken in Selma, NCTime
The photo was taken in early afternoon on an overcast winter day.Lighting
The natural lighting was very diffuse and soft because the day was overcast. I did not use any additional lighting.Equipment
This was taken with a Canon 10D with a Tamron 18-55mm lens. No tripod, no flash, no second chances.Inspiration
I loved the nostalgia of this shot. The old fashioned style of the bicycle and the classic drug store sign went together so naturally that I couldn't resist. I was driving down main street and saw this scene. I quickly pulled over and got off one shot before a man came out of the drug store, got on the bike and rode away. The thing I like best about this shot is that it could have been taken any time in the last 60 or so years.Editing
I used Picasa 3 to crop the photo, adjust the contrast, and convert to sepia. In my camera bag
At the time I took this photo, the 10D and the 18-55 lens were all of the equipment I had. My bag now has my 7D with a variety of lenses and filters. I also carry a 20D infrared conversion kit.Feedback
Never stop looking around. Spend a lot of time moving around in areas both familiar and unfamiliar, and try to see things in new ways. When you see something, get at least one shot quickly because you don't know what might change while you are trying to make everything perfect.
