The photo was taken in the Vatican museum in the famous spiral staircase during my Summer Vacations to Rome in 2010.Time
This was shot during our tour at the Vatican Museum at 3 pm.Lighting
Nothing special about the lighting other than the usual daylight.Equipment
The gear which I used for this photo was a Pentax K20D with the kit lens: SMC Pentax DA 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 AL II.Inspiration
The Spiral staircase has such a magnificent architecture and geometry that you simply cannot descent it without taking lots of photos. As a matter of fact, it's a challenge for every photographer (with a simple "travel" gear) to fit the whole structure within the frame and get as symmetrical as possible. It's a shot that you can look for years to come and still feel the same excitement as the time of capture.Editing
The post-processing was done in Lightroom and involved the basics such as clarity, contrast and vibrance enhancement. Highlights and Shadows have been adjusted as well in order to increase the dynamic range. Other adjustments included the removal of chromatic aberration and profile corrections. As a final step I applied some noise reduction and a lit bit of sharpening. In my camera bag
It really depends on the purpose of the photoshooting. When travelling nowadays I carry with me my Nikon D610 with Tamron SP 24-70 Di VC USD and my mirrorless Samsung NX1000 with a couple of lenses. When I am out shooting street, I take only the mirrorless (NX1000) with the fixed pancake Samsung NX 30mm f/2 because I want to be as discreet as possible (sometimes I even use only my mobile phone for candid shooting).Feedback
The Vatican Museum to a photographer is like a playground to a kid. You can capture amazing photos but you need to be able to move fast and find the right spot quickly in an overcrowded place. When you find the right spot, you may not have a lot of time so be prepared to act fast and compose with accuracy to get the right shot.
