Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at Long Arm Dam in Hanover, Pa.

Time

This photo was taken on July 25, 2014 at around 8:15 pm. A couple had parked right down by the lake and as I approached them I noticed they were taking photos and asked if they minded if I took a few shots. As we were taking photos they let me know they were both enrolled in a photography course and were putting into practice what they had learned the night before.

Lighting

I was very fortunate that the natural lighting was outstanding.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon T4i with a Tamron 18-270mm lens. No other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

I was looking for a nice spot at the lake to take some sunset pictures over the water. The clouds did not appear they were going to cooperate with a nice sunset but when I saw the car parked as it was near the lake, the sun reflecting off the water, and how colorful the clouds were I knew this would be the perfect opportunity to grab a wondeful shot.

Editing

I did some post processing in LightRoom to remove a post that was not very pleasing to the eye as well as correcting the white balance and adjusting some of the colors to make them pop.

In my camera bag

My camera bag normally contains my Tamron 18-270mm lens because I find it to be very versatile for most any shots I want to take. I also have my extension tubes, a neutral density filter, extra (charged) batteries, and a flashlight.

Feedback

I think going to different places as well as being flexible with what you might be looking for is key because I originally just wanted to capture the sunset but was fortunate to come across an amazing photo opportunity.
