Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in the college's studio in London, while I was doing National Diploma in Photography course.

Time

Because I had limited time to use studio (I had to book slot for one and half hour only), the preparation process was crucial for me. It took me couple of weeks to search for inspirations, create mood board, lighting diagrams and get team. On shoot day I met with my team two hours before actual shoot to prepare model and lighting set up.

Lighting

I shoot in studio because I wanted to have full control on lights. Using low key lighting is important to me to create this romantic, intimate and dramatic image. I used only one light on the left side and bounced to reflector on the right which show the texture on the side.

Equipment

This was shot on Nikon D7000 with zoom lens at 42mm. I used Elinchrom flash with large soft box on it. As reflector I used large white polystyrene board.

Inspiration

I was developing my photography style, and fine art was always something inspiring to me. I wanted to shoot romantic and mysterious fine art photographs. I wanted to create an character with angelic look and my old wedding dress was perfect for this shot, because when model was holding sides of the dress it looks like angel's wings.

Editing

I did basic Lightroom post-processing like white balance, dodge and burn. I also crop in square format because the studio was small and I got more in my frame than background.

In my camera bag

My bag is very small and light. When I go for a walk or searching for inspirations I pack my Nikon D7000 and Nikon 50mm F/1.8 prime lens . When I go for shoot I take my Nikon D750, Sigma 35mm F/1.4, Nikon 50mm F/1.8 prime lens, Sigma 85 F/1.4, Speedlight, small reflector and spare batteries.

Feedback

Be prepared and know what you are doing. Working with team means you are responsible for shoot and if something go wrong it will be your fault. Mood board is a great, even if you will not be using it, you can show to your team and explain your vision. Always have a back up plan. When model will get sick or make up artist won't show up, or anything involving in your shoot you are prepare and stay professional.
