Yellowstone National Park, WY. Even under an overcast sky, the views are big in Montana and Wyoming. January is more night than day here, and starting out in darkness to brighten only a few degrees above darkness is...disappointing. And so a bleak winter day matched my mood as I moved between clumps of frozen sage up on the Blacktail Plateau in Yellowstone. Lighter and darker shades of gray pressed down on me, but I had seen a saving grace way out there...a patch of blue, a skylight of hope. It won't last long but I suppose we cling to the little things that break our darkness. I shot a pan of seven verticals that I would stitch to enhance that peripheral feel, then watched while the day's bright spot faded away.
