This photo was taken in my back garden, Hover fly on a Californian poppy. Ilove taking pictures of flowers and insects, but don't have macro lenses, so have to try harder!Time
It was around 13.00hrs with bright sunshine, this was one picture of about 10 I took of this subject, the rest were not up to scratch, tried different settings, because I didn't have much knowledge at the time, come to think about it I am not much more Knowledgable now and I only have basic entry level equipment.Lighting
No, I have no lighting equipment only the flash on the camera.Equipment
Canon 600D, and 2 lenses a zoom EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 III and an EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 III. Which came with the camera, I am saving up for other equipment which might take a while.Inspiration
I was inspired to take this by sheer enthusiasm, a bright day and an obliging Hover fly and flower, I do try to get the best pictures I can and develop an "eye" for a situation, the sheer joy of freedom of choice and living in the countryside does help!Editing
I did do some post-processing on this picture, but I only have Windows live photo gallery at my disposal, nothing technical, or paid for!In my camera bag
As I said before, I only have a Canon 600D, a zoom EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 III and an EF-S 18-55mm 1:3 5-5.6 lens and a Hoya polaroid filter. but hey I can reach a certain level with this basic equipment, so that will be my aim. Obviously that level will not be up to professional standards but you have to start somewhere! And if you can see a shot and are in the right place at the right time and you are patient and have the light you can still produce some interesting photographs.Feedback
Patience is a great virtue, I try to get up and out 1/2 an hour before sunrise - when beautiful wonderful things happen in the sky, also be out 1/2 an hour before sunset because the same is true, I always try to be out when the light is at it's best and brightest and always watch the weather for interesting developments. I try to keep my eyes open for every opportunity. The world and all the things in it happen in an instant but planning will help. As I said I live in the countryside where big skies really do help, but industrial images give me great pleasure. I always carry my camera close to me "just in case". You must not be disapointed because if you miss a shot because bigger and better opportunities will appear, photography is there to be enjoyed!
