Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken off of Waikiki Beach on Oahu Hawaii.

Time

This photo was taken later in the day around 4 or 5pm.

Lighting

I saw this flower floating and noticed the streams of light shining on it through the water. I composed my shot so that the viewer's eyes would follow the light across the photo to the flower and back.

Equipment

This was shot with a Gopro HERO3 Silver

Inspiration

The beautiful purple of the flower caught my eye and when I got closer I realized that it wasn't just because I liked the flower's coloring I loved the light that was hitting it. The sun streams seemed to make the flower glow.

Editing

Because I shot this on a Gopro I had very little idea what I was going to get. I cropped the photo lightly to help my composition and using Photoshop I increased the saturation a little bit.

In my camera bag

I'm a Nikon lover. I have a Nikon D750 with an 18-200mm lens that I carry all the time. I also have a 70-200 f/2.8, 50mm f/1.8 lens and a D7000. And of course I always have my GoPro for shots like this that would destroy my very expensive equipment that is not waterproof.

Feedback

Pay attention to your light source and how you compose your photographs. This shot was pretty simple in that I used natural light and a camera that I can't adjust the settings on much. What made the image I think, is my angle and how I composed the image.
