Cerinthe is actually a native of the Greek Islands. This hard to find annual is decidedly a favourite in plant lovers' circles. They make a show-stopping colour accent in the garden or as cut flowers for indoor arrangements.
This beautiful highly versatile, aristocratic border plant has become very much in vogue in recent years. It has oval, fleshy blue-green leaves, mottled with white, spiral up the stem, transforming themselves into tighter packed, sea blue bracts - and then the finale - small clusters of rich purple-blue tubular, nodding flowers, which are cream inside with waxy and almost succulent stems. They are adored by humans, bees and hummingbirds.
Sometimes referred to as 'Blue Kiwi' and 'Pride of Gibraltar', the Blue Shrimp Plant is one of the most asked about plants in our garden. Growing to approximately 18 to 24 inches tall, this rare “heirloom” variety is a subtle but beautiful plant that is very easy to grow.
