Behind The Lens

Location

This is my favorite photograph of my daughter, Abbiella. It was taken on a little footbridge just off a wooded trail in my hometown of Sanford Maine.

Time

This was the time of year when summer starts turning into Autumn, taken during my favorite time of day, the golden hour, at the end of the day about an hour or two before sunset. The lighting is warm and everything seems to be golden.

Lighting

I always prefer to shoot in natural lighting, so I take my cues from nature. . . I observe how the sun makes the landscape and people look throughout the day and base my sessions on that.

Equipment

I shot the photograph with a Nikon D 800, handheld, and a 70-200mm at f/2.8

Inspiration

My daughter, she is a natural model and loves for me to take her picture, I happily oblige!

Editing

I did some minimal post processing to the raw file, although it was quite warm I did adjust the temperature to bring out even more of the oranges and yellows. After that I added the falling leaves to help depict the autumn season.

In my camera bag

I always pack little treats to persuade kids and small woodland creatures. Along with my Nikon D800. A 50mm 1.4 and a 70-200mm 2.8. Im looking to add an ultrawide angle soon!

Feedback

The best advice when working with kids is to be patient and have small treats for incentives. I always try to let them take the lead, and start a conversation with them what their favorite colors or toys are. Sit back and watch them play, you'll see some picture worthy moments without making them pose.
