Message in a Bottle was taken at a beach called Point Arkwright on the Sunshine Coast Australia.Time
Mid afternoon on a cloudy, cold windy day. I was in hope of a empty beach to play and experiment with my bottle and other props. I am a beginner in photography and having a beach to yourself is really helpful as when you're rolling around in the shore break covered in sand looking a real mess the last thing you want is looking up and seeing a person standing over you asking you what your doing.Lighting
I wanted a cloudy day and moody ocean to match the melancholy of the Message in the bottle.Equipment
My very first love of my life a Olympus Tough waterproof 12mp camera, which sadly is no longer with me. I used the dramatic setting built into the camera.Inspiration
My inspiration came from a bottle sitting on the shelf, I could then imagine it floating across the sea I had to just try to create the picture in my mind. My bottle had to look dramatic but romantic as well.Editing
My photo was already taken in dramatic mode so I left it as is straight from the camera. In my camera bag
My replacement Olympus Tough now a 16mp has a special place in the back pack side pocket . But my bag is really excited now to have a Olympus OMD and its 12-40mm lens, 75-300mm lens, and just purchased from my holiday job so excited a macro lens. Oly 60mm.Feedback
Low tide was the most gentle shore break on the bottle an me. Also the sand is wet so you can build a slight embankment for the bottle and move the sand to keep the bottle stable. Bring a towel as the bottle will get really gritty and sandy with each wave and need a wipe over for each photo. Be prepared to get really wet and sandy as you need to lay in that shore break dig in with knees and take a breath hold the camera on the sand and getting ready for the waves to wash over you .It great fun.
