Behind The Lens

Location

Hello this photo was taken at a seaside town near to where I live, it has an elegant old pier that has just had a major renovation project completed.

Time

I arrived at the pier around sunset and with the use of an ND ( neutral density) filter my trusty tripod and cable release I was able to achieve the long exposure I wanted.

Lighting

The light that day was soft and defused giving a sureen look, with calm still water.

Equipment

There were no special requirements or expensive equipment, I used an Olympus OMD-EM5 micro four thirds camera with an 12-50mm zoom lens set to 12mm. This coupled to a Cokin ND filter and my trusty old Velbon tripod was all that was required.

Inspiration

This pier and the seaside town of Mumbles has always inspired me from the pretty painted houses and restaurants to the long coastal walkway, inspiration was never hard to find.

Editing

Processing was done first in light room to adjust the white balance and some general tweeks then over to Photoshop to do a little cropping and highlight and shadow compensation.

In my camera bag

My kit bag has changed a lot in the last couple of months as I have found myself shooting a lot more street photography, so gone has the big DSLR and it has been replaced by a Fuji X PRO1 with a 18-55mm f2.8 along with a 50-230 telephoto lens and a 27mm pancake lens, this keeps my bag light and more discrete.

Feedback

Yes walk around, don't just arive and think this is the best view point, take a stroll look for difrent angles and get a feel for the place .
