--A day before, when i was trying to get asleep i came with this idea. How i want to lavitate in air and this long piece of fabric would hang down, which would represent blood. I couldn't wait to try it today, and make it real. It was really hard to get myself in the frame, because i didn't have a lot of space. But i made it:) I have to thank my boyfriend, who helped me with my lavitation and making my idea came true;) Later on in photoshop i expanded the frame, because that's how i imagined it would looked like:).--

I took this photo at my home, in front of a white wall. I used natural light from the roof window.Time
Because it was a long time ago I can't really specify the exact hour, but it was probably before noon. Because the light in that time of the day is perfect for this kind of shots.Lighting
Nothing special. I used natural light that was coming from a roof window.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon EOS 5D mark II with Canon EF 50 mm 1.4 USM lens. I used a tripod and a wireless remote (the photo is a self-portrait).Inspiration
In that time I was doing my project 365 days of self-portrait. I wanted to experiment because this way I really learned a lot about shooting this kind of photos and about post-processing. I love to make images where I float. Because they are hard to make but they are a lot of fun too. I got this idea one day, it just popped in my head - "What if I try to make myself float and then the bloody waterfall would pour down from me..." Every detail is carefully placed here. I chose a white dress because the white colour represents innocence. And I made the "waterfall" red because represents the blood. I think I watched a lot of vampire-related tv show back then when I made it and I think that I got the idea there. ;)Editing
The post-processing was really long for this photo. I had to plan for it before so that I prepared and shoot all the needed images to make a final photo. The first thing I do for all of my images is, that I expand them into a square. I used one image as a base. That was the image of me, lying on a box covered with a sheet. That I expand the image down, erase the floor and replace them with photos of an empty white wall. Then I added the photos of only the sheet so that I got this "waterfall" look. When all of that was finished I started to play a little with different textures, with lighting, ... It's hard to explain the details, especially because It was quite long ago since I made this image. In my camera bag
I always have my Canon EOS 5D mark II with Canon EF 50 mm 1.4 USM lens and my wireless remote. If I plan to shoot a self-portrait than my tripod is a must too. Otherwise just my camera and lens. ;)Feedback
This kind of images takes a lot of time and imagination. And they take a lot of planning before you start. Make sure you have an exact idea. Do a sketch of it. Think about clothing, about props and about the environment where you want to shoot it. For this kind of images, I always use a simple white wall. And then I experiment in the post-production with textures to add cracks if I want them, or to make it seem like It's nothing there behind me. I think of it as a blank white canvas like the painters use it. ;) I just use if for my photography.
