Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the shallow waters of an island in Abaco Bahamas, called Man-O-War Cay.

Time

It was around mid afternoon and I was in waist deep water, enjoy a water walk , when I heard my husband say, " Myrtle is back". She is a Green turtle that frequented this area daily in the Summer. Myrtle has grown to maturity and it is hoped that she is no longer visiting because she has found a mate.

Lighting

Underwater photography is tricky when taking photos in shallow water. The lighting can cause ripple shadows in the photo. It was overcast when i took this photo, so no direct sun glare.

Equipment

Nikon AW 100

Inspiration

I LOVE turtles!!! We had been coming to this area looking for Myrtle and finally got to see her and swim with her . What a treat!

Editing

I enhanced the colors to get a better depth of turquoise in the background.

In my camera bag

Canon 70d with canon 70-200 lens. And the Nikon AW100

Feedback

I do like the Nikon AW 100, BUT I tried an underwater camera with the viewfinder in the middle and LOVED it. For me it is so much easier especially when the light is such that you can't see the LCD display well, you can easily judge the shot because the Viewfinder is in the middle. Top left Viewfinders are more difficult . That's my opinion. To photograph a Sea turtle, you've got to be quiet and still. no fast movements. Myrtle let me get real close, even swimming towards me because she was used to swimmers.
