Behind The Lens

Location

In my studio.

Time

I typically start my newborn sessions around 9:30-10 in the morning. So it was taken anytime between then and 1.

Lighting

I use an alien bee and a PLM for lighting. Light was positioned behind him and to the left so I could shot into the shadow to create some depth.

Equipment

Canon 5d Mark iii with a canon 35mm lens, and as mentioned before my studio lighting.

Inspiration

His adorable baby-ness :)

Editing

Yes, but with newborn portraits it's usually very minimal. Sometimes I clean up the skin and even out the tone if needed. I also softened the edges of the photo.

In my camera bag

5d mark iii, Sigma 50mm 1.4, Sigma 35mm 1.4, canon 70-200 L 2.8, canon 135mm 2.0.

Feedback

Shoot into the shadows for more depth and interest in your photo. Play with the light to see which looks more interesting.
