Location
I took this photo in Antigua, Guatemala. I was on a month long trip through Central America by bus, and this was on one of the first days of my trip. It was one of the most life impacting trips I've ever taken and really took my love for traveling and travel photography to a whole new level.Time
It was about 5 am. Antigua is very crowded during the day with locals and tourists, so I went out early so I could take photos with barely any people on the streets.Lighting
This was shot in natural, soft lighting in the early morning, but I wanted to turn up the contrast to make it look very dramatic.Equipment
I took this with my first DSLR, a Nikon d3100. I now shoot with a Nikon D800. I took this handheld and had to take quite a few shots before I got all the lines perfectly lined up in the reflection.Inspiration
I just saw the beautiful colors of the buildings and made them reflect in a water fountain that was right in front.Editing
Yes, probably a little too much. I've edited this photo since I posted the original and decreased the contrast to make it look a little more natural. I like to edit in Lightroom. I sell my prints and this is my absolute best seller hands down.In my camera bag
It depends on what type of photography I'm doing, whether I'm traveling, shooting family portraits, a wedding, or a local band concert. For my travels I take my Nikon d800, my Tamron 150-600mm 5-6.3 (I LOVE this lens for wildlife!), my Rokinon 14mm 2.8 (great for landscape or night time sky photography), my Nikon 105mm 2.8 macro lens for little animals like frogs, and my Bower 35mm 1.4. I also carry an LED video light which I prefer over using a regular flash. For me this light is essential for light painting in night time photography or just for a little extra light when taking photos in lower light, like in dense forests. I usually prefer to buy off-brand lenses (as long as they have good reviews) because the quality can be just as good as name brand Nikon lenses, but for a fraction of the price. This allows me to expand my equipment instead of spending all my money on one lens.Feedback
This was actually my first time ever taking a photo like this. I had just recently started getting into photography and yet this is absolutely my best selling photo. Never be afraid to try something new. Take your time and experiment with new angles. It took probably about 20 tries to get it lined up perfectly as a handheld photo. The time of day also played an important part because the fountain that I used for the reflection was in the shade, so there was no glare coming off of the water. If there was a glare it would've been almost impossible for me to capture this photo because I wasn't carrying any lens filters. If there was a glare when you tried to take a photo like this, a polarizing filter would be essential.
