Location
I am a self thought photographer. I shoot mostly weddings now with some lifestyle portraiture in between. This photo was shot on a street near my house.Time
This image was taken for my kids holiday shoot on November 21, 2014 at 5:11PM. We were basically done with the shoot at the nearby park and heading home when I noticed the beautiful tree and knew we just had to stop there.Lighting
The sun was just setting and I just loved how it reflected on the asphalt and the top of the tree. I loved how the road weaved up and down.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 5D MkIII with and and 85mm 1.2 lens. I got very low on the ground to capture the whole tree.Inspiration
I was inspired by the amazing light glow that reflected everywhere from the road to the houses and the glow coming from the maple tree. Fall is one of my favorite seasons because of its vibrant but warm tones.Editing
For this image, there was a bare tree on the right hand side of the image that threw it completely off balance. I thought the image needed some symmetry so I layered a mirror of the maple tree on the left of top of the bare tree. I did some cloning here and there so it didn't look too identical...In my camera bag
My Canon 5dMk III goes with me everywhere. Prime lenses are my favorite, 85MM 1.2 being at the top of the list. I have been using my 50mm 1.2 less and less but still love it. L series lenses 24-70MM 2.8, 70-200 2.8 and Macro 100 are also on my bag. I recently acquire some Magmod products and I cannot wait to try them out along with my Canon 600 RTX.Feedback
I am always looking for the light rather than the location. You can have a beautiful location but if you have less than desirable lighting (Unless you artificially create it) then your image if not going to be as desirable as you hope so. When I look at an image, I am always questioning what about the photos it is that I love or not love. Is it the lighting, the pose, composition, background or how it all blend together nicely? For this particular image, getting very low on the ground and shooting wide open was key....
