Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken when I was visiting my sister in Varena, Lithuania. Usually I pick my camera with me everywhere I go and the see sight around those places were amazing. Beautiful pine trees were just asking for a take or two.

Time

The shot was taken on a sunny summer day‘s noon. I really enjoy summer because then the nature are so beautiful and alive. This season feels full of life. I remember that the time was perfect for the shot because it was after the rain and you could just smell the freshness in the air. The temperature was about 20 degrees celsius above zero. The exact time for the taken photo is August 9, 2014 at 12:42 PM.

Lighting

I've tried a few shots before I caught the best light. The light is very important for every photo so I had a hard time standing the right way to catch the sunlight through the trees in the woods. That time I just thought that try your best and enjoy what you are doing.

Equipment

This was shot on Nikon D600, with an Helios 44-2 lens. No other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

I‘m constantly taking pictures of nature. She‘s so mysterious and always changing. I was looking for a perfect place to try my Helios lens and then I saw this pine branch. I‘ve stopped and took a deep breath. The branch was looking so fresh and full of life so I wanted to reflect that on my photo.

Editing

This nature photo was post-processed. I‘ve corrected color balance and used HDR toning.

In my camera bag

I always have a Helios 44-2 lens and Meike Auto Focus AF Macro Extension Tube Ring when I‘m going for nature shooting. I also pack Nikon D600 and Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM Art to my bag too. I really like it. Those are my favorite lens. Another lens that I have is Tamron 24-70 F2.8. With it I take quicly changing situations that‘s why it‘s also important for me to have it in my pack. I like to have all this equipment because then I can feel ready for everything.

Feedback

If you want to do something like this you should go for a walk after the rain. Sometimes after the rain the light is not too bright and not too dark. It‘s best to have a lens with a good bokeh. Without it it‘s impossible to capture something like this. I like close up photo taking so you won‘t get away without it too. And the most important thing is to never give up trying. Try a few times and if it‘s not good this time just try another time in the same place.
