Virginia Castro is an incredibly talented flamenco dancer from Spain who currently lives in Toronto. This photograph is from the photo shoot that I did with her few months ago in an Ikea Parking lot and it will be part of my upcoming project called "Off Stage".

Location
I have been working on my new project "Off Stage", photographing flamenco dancers in unusual locations. When dancer Virginia Castro (Spain) approached me to do a photo shoot I took her to one of my favorite spots of the series, parking lot of Ikea, Toronto.Time
Early afternoon on an overcast day.Lighting
I had studied the location for a while and had a rough idea of what time of the day would work the best for light and getting the place empty enough for the shoot. Even though I had planned to use a very portable light set up, a Nikon hot shoe flash and Lastolite all in one umbrella, I ended up using the ambient light which was created by the parking lot lamps.Equipment
Nikon D800 DSLR with Nikon 85mm f/1.4 G Lens.Inspiration
My new series "Off Stage". Mixing flamenco with industrial and urban scenes.Editing
I used DXO Elite Pro to convert the image to jpeg and to do minor adjustments. Then I applied Agfa Vista 200 film effect for the final look.In my camera bag
Nikon D800, some old and new Nikon lenses including 80-200 f/2.8 D, 28-70 f2.8, 50 f/1.4 G, 85 f/1.8 G, Tokina 16-28 f/2.8 and lensbaby composer. If I have to take one lens, depending on the subject/occasion, it would be 80-200 or 28-70. But I like to carry everything with me whenever I can.Feedback
For this series, it is really the combination of my passion for flamenco and finding the beauty in unusual places. I never stop looking for locations, they are everywhere. Often times you don't even have to go too far to find them. It's the ideas matter the most not the technical stuff.
