Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken in West Hollywood, in Luna's mom's car, which she decided to drive for the afternoon. This was captured right before she took off, doggles down and wind in her ears (she wishes she had a convertible, but the window down always gives a good illusion anyway).Time
It was probably early afternoon in December, the sun was out but filtered by some nice trees on a residential West Hollywood street.Lighting
The car was in the shade an the sun light was filtered through the trees and not directly affecting the area - an easy breezy neutral lighting condition that didn't require much more of a 5.6 aperture.Equipment
Canon 60D with Tokina 11-16mm lens. Hand held camera, no flash.Inspiration
Luna (the Vizsla in question) is my favorite dog and best canine friend, we've had a lot of adventures together and she's inspired me to take many pictures over the years (4) we've known each other. The doggles were a present from me to her and we had only taken a couple of shots in the house, so I decided to catch her "in action". This specific shot is part of a series of photos, called "A day in the life of a model" - because what else could you be doing in Hollywood when you're this gorgeous?!Editing
For the post process I used Photoshop CS6 and created a few lawyers to desaturate the background and keep Luna in color, and to edit out leash and some gnarly reflections on the side of the car.In my camera bag
Canon 60D and Canon 6D, which I both like for their weight, ease of use, and double duty as video cameras. Lenses: Canon 35mm f/1.8, Tokina 11-16mm, Canon 24-70mm f/2.8. Neewer 5 in 1 reflector, Speedlite & some filters. Imagination. A knee pad or extra pair of pants (lots of rolling on the floor when photographing dogs!)Feedback
Try to make the experience fun for the pet - some treats and/or toys can just be a lifesaver in order to get their attention. Dogs have a short attention span, be ready to press that button often to capture some of their best expressions! If the subjects are a good sport and cooperative, have fun with accessories, but always respect the animals! :)
