Location
I took this picture in a small room we use as an art studio at home it's not very big but gives me enough room to play about with small close up and macro shots.Time
it was around mid to late afternoon as I remember having trouble making the most out of the natural light coming in through the small window, so having to move things around the room to accommodate my project and finding the best possible place for light.Lighting
Lighting was a big issue as natural light was fading fast and using the over head light or the flash reflected very noticeably off the high gloss wood so had to find another way. I originally wanted to use the natural light from the window but that was fading fast and didn't want to alter any of my ISO,shutter and aperture setting so decided to use a desk lamp fitted with a low wattage led bulb that was designed to simulate natural day light. I myself think it gave a good effect.Equipment
With this shot I used my Nikon D3200 along with the kit lens 18-55mm and my manfrotto tripod set the camera up as close to the subject while keeping what I wanted in frame. I surrounded the chess board with a high wall of black card and left a cut out for the light to shine through from the desk lamp.Inspiration
I've always wondered what would happen if toys came alive at night kinda like toy story and what would they get up to, so this is a kind of hidden camera shot as if cctv has been set up to capture strange things happening in the night with no explanation. Vivid imagination and to many kids films I think (plus I get to play with toys)Editing
Believe it or not but this photo has had nothing done to it or altered in anyway, I have used this picture and others from this project and played around on Photoshop CC with colour splash black and white, but decided that this natural unedited one stood out to me.In my camera bag
All thats with me is my kit lens 18-55mm Nikkor a 70-300mm Sigma my UV filters plenty of spare batteries and memory cards and tripod, with the new arrival of my Sigma 90mm 1.1 macro lens on it's way very soon.Feedback
If you have an idea in mind of what you want to achieve then try and stick to it but be ready to adapt it due to weather and lighting conditions which isn't always a bad thing as it can make for a more interesting shot than you originally planed. So be open minded and don't get disheartened if what you want doesn't appear just try again. I've found that for every 20-30 shots I take I may only be Happy with 1 sometimes none.
