I capture this little feller at my workplace. I was opening the gate and when I looked down on the fence, I saw this jumping spider. I ran to my van and grabbed my camera and flash and the shooting began! He stayed fairly still for me. I shot him hand held too.Time
I shot this creature in the midday sun. Harsh light but the flash and small aperture helped.Lighting
The midday sun and my 430EXII flash was all I used. The flash helped capture catch light in his eyes.Equipment
I used my Canon 40D and Canon 430EXII flash and a Sigma 105mm macro lens.Inspiration
I ran across an YouTube video of Thomas Shahan. He has capture some awesome images of jumping spiders. After watching the videos, I was determined to go find jumping spiders to shoot! These creatures are fascinating and they are very curious.Editing
I did very little post-processing. I used camera raw in Photoshop. I just boosted the exposure, contrast and up the saturation just a tad and cropped the image just a little. In my camera bag
My equipment consist of my Canon 40D, Canon 30D, Canon 430 EXII, Canon 530 EXII, extension tubes. This is what I carry with me to work. I never know what I might see during the day! Life passes your by so shoot it!!Feedback
Just be patient! These creatures move very fast and sometimes won't stay still. With that said I recommend setting your shutter drive to hi speed. Manual focus is a must. Most of my shots were no good. But this was the best one. If I find another jumping spider to shoot, I will try to get more shots so I can focus stack. So they will be more in focus.
