Behind The Lens
Location
I was able to snag this photo of my cat while he was snug in a box that had been left on my kitchen table. He was finally sitting still so I wiped out my camera. Ying (my cat) really loved that box so we put his favorite blanket (leopard print) in the bottom. Which is what gave the background the dark and light smoke like appearance.Time
Somewhere around early midday I would have to say. The sun was not quite finished going over the top of the house.Lighting
The only lighting I used was from the window shade that I opened.Equipment
I used a Cannon EOS REBLE T3 and the standard lens that comes with the camera when you buy it.Inspiration
I was just walking by when I saw Ying's face and to me he looked like he was dreaming and I knew that I wanted to capture that expression. You should have seen my running as quietly as I could to go and get my camera. I was tiptoeing down the hall at light speed so that he would move from that position.Editing
I did change the picture to black and white, and I played around with the contrasts until I got the effect that I wanted. In my camera bag
First thing that I always have is my Cannon EOS REBLE T3 along with any cleaning materials that I might need for my lenses. Next I pack a extra memory card, as well as a card reader in case I find a place that I can check if I got the desired look before I leave. Last but not least some form of water proof bag in case it rains or I am working in the snow.Feedback
If you going to be taking a picture of an animal of any type and you want them to look in a certain direction then I would suggest that you have a good size amount of their favorite treat on hand. I didn't have to use this trick for this picture, but when I'm working with my other cat, Stella, I have to hold a treat either above or to the side of my head. This way when she flirts with me for the treat it appears in the photo that she is flirting with the people looking at the picture. Another thing that was essential to this photo was the natural light. Letting the sun do it's job is basically how I take my pictures.
