Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a family holiday at Borth in Mid-wales.

Time

I took the photo around 5pm in early october, we had walked down to the beach for me to catch some sunset pics.

Lighting

The natural light was just perfect for taking beach shots.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D3100 with a kit 18-55mm lens that came with my camera as a bundle.

Inspiration

I started using a Kodak bridge camera which I still use from time to time. I had gone to a bird of prey sanctuary with a cousin who has been into photography for a number of years and was impressed with his Nikon DSLR and the photo's that he was achieving with it, so i purchased my own in June 2014 opting for the D3100 as I found it to be a great transitional camera. To be honest as a complete amateur I was just clicking away trying various tips that had been given me by my cousin and his friends in regard to composure, angles etc.

Editing

No. A conversion to mono and a crop that is all.

In my camera bag

I have a ruck-sack with my Nikon D3100 & my little kodak bridge camera. My lenses consist of an 18-55mm , 55-200mm nikon kits lenses, a Sigma 70-300mm tele-macro lens & I also have a small 50mm Carl Ziess prime lens which I like using as it takes some cracking photos for an old lens (as long as i get the settings correct :) ). I have a small extendible tripod which folds to 350 mm and extends to 1050mm and fits nicely in the side strap on my bag. I have a flash gun and macro tubes as you never know what time of photo may become available.

Feedback

Just get out there experiment & have fun dont be afraid to try anything. Some of my best photos seem to come when its just me,my camera and my music playing through my head phones. Grab your camera and go for a walk try the same place at various times of the day, as I have found a photo opportunity can come at any time and can also vanish just as quick.
