One of the primary things I enjoy about creating abstract images is the simpler form of visual vocabulary. It doesn’t mean that the narrative of the image is simplistic or unsophisticated – just simpler in the way the story is told. I know this is not true for all artists who create abstracts but for the most part it is for me. I enjoy creating something that provides an interaction of colour, line, form, and texture that draws the viewer into an engagement with it. If I can enable the viewer to feel some kind of relational connection with the image – no matter what it may be, then I know I’ve succeeded in my quest. This image I call ‘Grief’ – it is the face of a young woman grieving.
