Location
At my studio in Arlington, TXTime
This was an afternoon shoot.Lighting
I wanted to give this a moody feel to it, so there is one strobe with a gridded strip box in front of her acting as the main light and one behind her acting as a fill light. I used the fill light since I did not want to lose the detail of the cape.Equipment
Shot with a Sony A99, with a Tamron 28 - 75 F2.8 lens. Two Alien Bee AB800's with gridded strip boxes were the strobes used. There is also a fan to keep the cape full.Inspiration
Leila Lewis and I have worked together on multiple occasions and our goal was to create something artsy but with a lot of emotion. I think we accomplished this/Editing
I did some minor post processing in Photoshop but very little. Mostly to remove a couple of bruises and blemishes on the skin. Otherwise this isIn my camera bag
My go to cameras are either my Sony A7rii or my Sony A99. For the A7rii I use a 24 - 105 F4 G series lens and on the A99 I use a Tamron 28 - 75 F2.8 lens.Feedback
The best is to work in a dark studio and use the modeling lights on the strobes. With this setup you can see where the light is going to hit the model when the strobe fires. This takes a lot of the guesswork out of the shot since you will know exactly where the light and shadows will be. That way you have a real good idea of what the shot is going to look like even before you press the shutter button.
