the photo was taken in a quiet part of Thetford forest, I'm an amateur photographer so every shot teaches me something newTime
this photo was taken in the afternoon sun of the British winter, it was unusually light and the lighting from the low sun really added to the picture and helped to bring out the golden colour in the dogs fur.Lighting
as an amateur I'm still learning how to optimise the lighting to get the best from it. I try to take as many pictures as I can from different angles, this way I can see how the light brings the subject to life.Equipment
this was a simple set up. I used a Canon EOS 60D with a Canon EF 100-400 f4.5-5.6L IS USM. no other equipment was used. the lens was borrowed from my father who is a keen bird photographer.Inspiration
I was simply taking the dog for a walk and had the camera to see what wildlife I could snap whilst walking around. as I was watching the dog I saw him scouting the area as he had picked up a scent he liked. as he stood there I just quickly took several shots of him and this is the result.Editing
I've simply cropped the image the make the subject more of a focus point and enhanced the colours very slightly as this was a RAW image. In my camera bag
in my bag I currently have: Canon EOS 60D Canon 70-300 f4-5.6L IS USM with tripod collar 18-55 kit lens monopodFeedback
as an amateur I don't really have much advise. I will say you should take every opportunity you can to take pictures and learn from them, get to know your equipment inside out, get to know your subject, plan your pictures although some of the best shots are all about being in the right place at the right time and are completely unplanned. the biggest piece of advise is to join a club or find someone with similar interests in photography. the experience they already have will really help you to buy the right equipment and ensure you get the shots your after.
