I take this photo in Kiev, Ukraine during celebration a year ago the Ukrainian Revolution of Advantages. This is a memorable date for millions of Ukrainians. The year before, by order of the President-elect Viktor Yanukovych, the citizens of our country who had opposed the tyranny of the oligarchs were executed. A little later Ukraine was aggressed by Russia. The war began in the Donbass, which continues to this day. tens of thousands of people died. Over 1.5 million people became internally displaced persons, having lost all their property. I am one of these IDPs.Time
I shot during the mourning events dedicated to the Revolution Advantages. The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk took part in these events. The picture was taken between 7 and 8 PM.Lighting
A group of people stands against the backdrop of a giant LED screen, which was very clearly visible in the evening darkness.Equipment
I used a camera Olympus OM-D EM 1 and Panasonic 45-200mm f / 4-5.6 G Vario MEGA O.I.S. lens. No other equipment was required.Inspiration
A group of people against the background of the flying flag of Ukraine looked very graphic. It seemed to me that this is a powerful graphic image. I could not pass by without taking a photo.Editing
I usually shoot in RAW format, so my pictures require a little post-processing. I use Adobe software: CameraRAW and Photoshop. I pull the image up a bit along the curves. Usually photo processing takes no more than 30 seconds. In my camera bag
I use the usual urban backpack to carry equipment, since I do not like to stand out from the crowd, and the photo bag immediately attracts attention. One of the first in the world among photojournalists, I began to use Olympus mirrorless cameras. Now I use the Olympus OM-D EM1 Mark 2 camera. To solve reporting problems, I usually have three lenses: the Olympus wide-angle 9-18mm (the equivalent for 35mm film is 18-36mm), the normal Olympus zoom is 12-50mm (24-100mm) and Panasonic telephoto lens 45-200mm (90-400mm). I really like that the total weight of my equipment, along with the backpack, is slightly more than 2 kilograms. For creative and technical purposes, I use many other lenses. I'll start with Olympus optics: a 9mm / 8 fisheye lens cap, a normal 25mm / 2.8 lens (50mm equivalent), a 60mm / 2.8 macro lens (120mm equivalent) with a 1: 1 image scale, portrait lenses 45mm / 1.8 (90mm equivalent) and 75mm1.8 (150mm equivalent). In addition, I have a Sigma ART 19mm / 2.8 wide-angle lens (38mm equivalent). I really like the lenses of this series and I would not mind 30mm and 60mm.Feedback
The work of a photojournalist suggests that the person who carries it out has good observation. I wish novice journalists not to keep the camera in their eyes all the time. Look around, keep track of events and people. Try to predict the course of events. Lift the camera to your eyes and press the shutter only when it is really needed.
