Behind The Lens

Location

Taken in Melbourne at the famous Princes Pier.

Time

It was during summer and I had only just recently moved to Melbourne after travelling around Asia for a year. I was looking for some interesting landscapes and decided to walk down the beach at sunset. To my surprise the sun set exactly were I wanted it too.

Lighting

Just as the sun was setting it cast a reaareally nice golden glow. One of the best times of day too shoot in my opinion.

Equipment

A small Sony Nex 5R with the standard kit lense.

Inspiration

I live not to far from the beach and can always see the sun going down. I wanted to get out and explore my new city and see what inspiration I could get. I love the fact you can watch the sun set right down to the last bit of golden sunshine, something I wasn't accustomed too in England.

Editing

I ownly own a tablet so I keep my processing limited to simple adjustments like contrast, exposure and vibrance.

In my camera bag

I've been travelling for over a year now and like to travel as light as possible. So before leaving England I swapped all my DSLR gear for a mirrorless Sony Nex 5R with standard kit lens and my big clunky tripod for a Manfrotto Pixi

Feedback

Just keep shooting. I like to research a spot first and shoot some different angles during the day first before coming back to capture it the golden hour. The sunset isn't always spectacular and you should start to recognise what weather will give you the picture you want especially regarding cloud cover.
