Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my backyard when I lived in South Africa. Pretty much the time I started to get into photography.

Time

This was taken in the early evening and with it being Africa it was nice and warm out.

Lighting

The shadow that was coming from the building close to me just gave the moment a subtle yet relaxed look and just helped with the depth and detail of the photo.

Equipment

I used a bridge camera for this shot. It was a Kodak Z650.

Inspiration

The day was so hot and the dog and myself were sitting out in the garden relaxing. I was playing around with the camera when the dog came over and lay next to me, she looked so tired from the heat and was also happy that I was outside with her. She looked at me with a look of relaxed happiness that I had to take a picture of her and what you see is the result of that moment.

Editing

This photo is untouched by any processing and is exactly how it looked if you were there.

In my camera bag

My equipment is very little at the moment but I carry around a Nikon D40 with a 18-55mm lens.

Feedback

With animals, especially cats and dogs, the best thing I found is to just go outside, if it's nice and just sit down on the grass. They will get excited that you are there with them and they will give you the shots you want without you having to ask or set it up, if you let them do what they want you'll find that they will give you what you want and more. So my best advice for capturing this photo is to just enjoy the time outside with your animal, your patience will pay off and you will also make them happy that you are there with them as well.
