Location
I took this photo very sporadically. While driving in the Owens Valley, Ca, I saw about 15 deer grazing just off of the road. Luckily I had my camera with me. Bishop, Ca, is one of the most beautiful places in the world in my opinion.Time
This is one of the only photos that I have taken that I actually think and feel like is a solid photo. It was 5pm and the sun was just getting ready to set over the Sierras so the natural lighting was perfect. At least for my experience.Lighting
As I mentioned before it was all natural. I'm still quite new to photography so I really don't know too much about lighting.Equipment
The camera that I shot this with is a Canon 5d Mk II. The lens, also from Canon, is the 24-105mm standard zoom lens.Inspiration
This particular group of deer were very calm. I was just hoping to for them to let me take a picture of them as a group but this one decided to lay down and watch me. As I mentioned earlier, Bishop is one of the most beautiful places in the world so I was really just trying to capture the feelings that the valley make one feel. This deer letting me walk up within 10 feet of it really exemplifies that I feel.Editing
As far as editing, I sharpened it up a little bit and brought the saturation and exposure up a little as well. I don't really know too much about editing so I just make minor adjustments until I like the outcome. In my camera bag
Usually my 5d body, 24-105mm lens, an extra battery, a tripod, and a trash bag, in case it starts to rain pretty hard. Occasionally I'll bring an extra memory card as well, but most of the time I forget it because its still in my computer.Feedback
As a beginner I really don't have much to offer in the form of advice except what others have told me. Take pictures of anything and everything in all different settings. One piece of advice I do have to share is if you are trying to see amazing wild life, amazing country side, and meet some of the most friendly people you will ever meet, go visit the Owens Valley. Bishop, and Mammoth, Ca, will not let you down, whether its hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, swimming, boating, motorcycle riding, climbing, or just to get some fresh air. The Owens Valley will not let you down. Thank you!
