Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the site of the old Pretoria Colliery the scene of Lancashire's biggest mining disaster where on the 21st December 1910 320 live were lost http://www.staveley-genealogy.com/pretoria_pit.htm The water in the photo was one of the mine lodges

Time

The photo was taken on the 2nd Feb 2015 at 9:48 am

Lighting

Early morning grey overcast no sun on water probably helped make reflections stand out more

Equipment

My camera is a Sony A200 with a Sony 18-70mm lens and shot at 70mm F-stop 5.6 shutter speed 1/50sec ISO 100 metering centre weighted

Inspiration

I was just walking out of wooded area and spotted a Heron at the other side of lodge so raised camera to take shot and it started to fly away so took shot hurriedly on review the camera must still have been moving and the shot was blurry but I noticed the reflections so took a couple of shots hand held

Editing

The only post processing was a levels adjustment as I had only recently acquired Photoshop and had not really learned how to use it

In my camera bag

I am new to photography so I just have my Sony A200 a Sony 18-70 lens mentioned earlier and a Minolta 75-300 lens and a light tripod

Feedback

The only advice I can give is keep your eyes open don't know whether I would have spotted this if I had not spotted Heron first ( I would like to think I would have) I do know that since taking up photography I see things that I think to myself oh that would make a good photo which I would never have noticed beffore
